The United States Navy hosts a wreath-laying ceremony annually on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, the 3rd Friday in September, at the Navy Memorial. 

 Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the Navy Memorial and Project Recover, in partnership with Abramorama, will continue this special day honoring all Americans who are former prisoners of war, service members, civilians still unaccounted for, and their families. All guests are invited into the Navy Memorial Visitor Center for a movie screening, panel discussion, and reception:
